Sir,

Just recieved somr conservative propoganda, i.e. unsolicited mail.

The back page of your 'In Touch' newsletter explains that there used to be many more pubs, or 'inns', in kingston marketplace than there are now. You then go on to say that town centres are a pretty dreadful place to go if they are full of drunken youngsters.

WTF?

If more pubs=more drunken people, your maths doesnt work. if more pubs=less drunken people I would like to see your working. Basically you hae no idea, like most of us, what 24 drinking laws will do, and are just mouthing off.

PS

An important part of Kingston, which is now undoubtedly a student town, and so must suffer the usual consequences, is the student community. Kingston University union is extremely weak, so I suggest you look at www.kingstonuniversity.org (an underground site by university activists) to find out the general feeling and test the water. any local candidate would be foolish to disregard the student community.

Zarathustra
Think my point was that there used to be more pubs in the marketplace than there are now but in rcent years the move has been away from the market place into clubs and towards the river.

It is my view that if you are to introduce givernment legilation then you ought to have soe idea of the consequences otherwise you should not do it. I am sure there are plenty of examples from all parties of when this has happened but the basic principle still applies. As for "mouthing off" well that comes with the turf; if you are going to be a politician then you have got to give your opinion.

I do not underestimate the student community because Kingston is a Univeristy town. I had a group of them delivering for me today in Alexandra ward and I believe I have a date to speak to some of them next month.

However, there are residets who rsent the university and the rate of its growth and there has to be found a way of making both live comfortably alongside each other.

Good to hear from you and I will check out the site!
