Bed crisis at Hospital

I have had a call from a resident who has a mother she says is sleeping on a camp bed in Surbiton Hospital.

I have rung the PCT (they run Surbiton hospital) and they confirm they have had to put up extra beds in the "day room", although they would not confirm that they were camp beds. They blame Kingston Hospital (the acute hospital) who have a bed crisis.

Spoke to the Chief Executive of the hospital and she confirmed there was a problem with more admissions from A&E than normal.

Our hospital and it's staff do a great job. But the job they do sould not be in difficult circumstances if you consider how much tax we have now paid and the Government have directed towards the health service. We should have an adaptable service that meets the needs of the patients and it is clear the current organisational structure of the health service does not do that.

Why does the NHS still have so much trouble with the little things like getting enough beds for patients? I mean beds of all things ... shocking.

I agree Kevin that with all the money Labour has been putting into the hospitals you'd have thought this type of situation would be a thing of the past.

actually there was no shortage opf beds.

there were no 'camp beds' at all at Surbiton hospital. The extra beds were in fact of better facility than regular beds - i.e. they were exceptional beds!

So its not shocking at all. The only thing that is shocking here is the lengths politician's lies will go.... to slur the hardworking and deserved team of staff at the hospital in the name of political gain.
Stop doing it! Now!!

There was a bed shortage. The hospital and the PCT are actually very clear on this.

I did not say they were camp beds, that was merely what was reported to me.

What has the lack of beds got to do with hard working staff? They are not the same thing. The staff are hard working but the fact there are not enough beds is not something to do with the staff.
