....and then it was three

Well it is down to three.

A very interesting competition awaits us all.

On reflection, and now that Ken Clarke is out of things, I have to say I will be backing David Cameron. It is a risk as he is untried and lacking in experience. However, as we are finding, innovative thinking and the desire for change appears to be winning out over experience. I am still not convinced he knows what it is he is saying but it is a start.

It has been very interesting how the only politics in town at the moment is Tory politics. I was flying back from Belfast this evening and it was noticeable how passengers were in the airport standing around TV's awaiting the result!

What is going to be absorbing is whether this is going to go to a final vote? I have a hunch that if things start to drift then we may find ourselves with situation where others might withdraw leaving only one candidate. This is what happened with Howard when Davis withdrew.

We shall see.

If the senior Tories can face standing back and allowing Cameron to lead and then become selfless mentors for the years up to the next election, then we may just have a viable chance to win.

Forget attacking Blair for he is in self destuct mode, the real problem is Brown.
This is the man who has single handedly wrecked company pensions, employed more civil servants so that in deprived areas 25% of people work for the Govt.
Just look at the mess with Tax Credits,NHS,Transport...public spending is out of control,Brown is so bereft of ideas that he simply rewrites all his Golden Rules to suit the situation.
Given the ammunition supplied by the BB combo we should be able to rid this country of Socialism for ever and if the Lib Dems ever wake up to the fact that their cause is simply hopelessly misguided and more a product of the Peter Simple column in extremis,we should reclaim the lost souls who have voted L/Dem out of apathy and laclustre leadership given by recent Tory leaders

Nice comments Mojoman. Unfortunately the the people of Kingston are not in tune with them. Last Thursday elected yet another Lib Dem councillor with an increased majority.

What are the Tories going to do? If they can't win a simple local government by-election this close to the elections and after a brilliant result in the election in May - when are they ever going to get rid of the blasted Liberal socialist administration?

I know, I know, its unbelievable given the appalling record of profligacy, including but not limited to...

1/C/TAX average over 10% pa

2/ New Malden, soon to be rows of empty shops as folks avoid the shambolic "improvements" I am surprised Tudor Williams has survived it so far.

3/Traffic calming obstructions that cripple emergency response vehicles and mosy low slung cat converters.

4/ King Charles Road...word fail me.

5/ Tiffin School all but lost to local children etc

The list is endless and I simply cannot understand voting patterns unless an unusual number of still dreaming idealistic students have been persuaded to vote L/Dem.When they rendevous with the real world of work and taxes they will understand what a disaster has befallen us with Labour enjoying power due to L/Dem dilution of Tory vote.

Mojoman - you are sadly correct.

But the problem is the shower of useless idiots we have here who claim to be Conservatives.

Not for them slashing the council tax and putting a bit of money back into hard working families pockets - oh no! When they had power they put it up by more than the Liberals.

They can't even oppose the white elephant that is Kingston Theatre - they're sort of in favour of it, but then they're not.

They can't stand up for local services - we've seen Berrylands post office closed without a murmour from Conservative councillors.

Then there's the phone mast - Mr Davis couldn't even be bothered to represent his electors in the vote.

Our supposedly Conservative councillors back massive pay rises for the fat cat bureaucrats at the Guildhall.

Now Mr Davis is attacking local schools - I think the socialist Liberal poison has reached those who should be 'true blue'.

People like you and me have had enough of this wishy washiness - I'm looking closely at the Christian Party - they seem to have got the right idea.

Will you join us at the Guildhall on 1st of November to protest with other true Englishmen?

It sometimes feels as though there's a parallel universe out there where everything the Lib Dems put in their literature is true!

The Conservative are totally AGAINST the Lib Dem Theatre proposals. They are totally AGAINST the selling off of the building. They are totally AGAINST spending yet more council tax money in bailing out a commercial Theatre.

They have tried again and again to make the Lib Dems talk about their intentions in public, but to no avail.

The ONLY thing the Conservatives have said about supporting the Theatre is the old policy of supporting the original intention to have a community Theatre at no more cost to the tax payer.

You're right Anonymous, the Theatre is a White Elephant and the Conservatives have done everything they can to oppose it.

Similarly - the last time the Conservatives had the power to put up Council Tax was 1994. You just have to check the records to see.

Berrylands post office had a Conservative petition opposing its closure - again see records. This is in direct contrast to Ed Davey saying in the papers he had huge numbers of signatories in his petition which amazingly he never sent to Post Offices Ltd.

Phone mast - what are you on about? The Conservatives campaigned hard against it but Kevin couldn't vote on it himself because of where he lived - if he had he would have been reported to the Standards Board.

And where have you heard Conservatives supported the fat cat pay rises? Nonsense! The articles in the papers show the Conservatives opposing them!

And I have no idea what this is about Local Schools, but if its anything like the other accusations you bring forward I would say thats nonsense too!

Please stop believing everything you read in LD Literature - it is always rubbish wrapped up in an image of honesty.
