Daily Mirror slams Kingston road humps

This story in Friday's Daily Mirror concerns a cyclist who had to get the bearings replaced on his expensive off road bike because of the road humps in Kingston. I drive a SMART car and am forever grounding on the damn things - who nows how much damage they are doing? I do not agree with some of these 4X4 cars but it is about the only thing you can guarantee not to get damaged by Kingston's traffic calming.

I really believe that the Council should now be consulting residents on the removal of road humps whenever they resurface a road (which I admit is not that often).

The humps that they built in Maple Road outside Maple School were so bad, that even if you went at 5mph, you still did damage to your car if you went over them.

They replaced them a few weeks later. Not surprising really.

Hey, what's a few thousand pounds putting in humps, taking them out and replacing them. Heck, the taxpayers will pay, and won't grumple (at least by the time of the next election), will they?

Hurrah!!

At last some common sense is drip feeding through the sponge of PC and more and more folk are realising that the humps are a menace.
Even the Greens admit pollution increases where there are chains of humps and motorists speed up and change down every few yards.
The original sleeping policemen were used mainly at overseas hotels to stop excess speeds in the grounds and were really vicious so all the taxi drivers etc obeyed them or died.
I am surprised that brother Ken hasnt installed them on the urban stretches of the M4 yet...perhaps I speak to soon mustnt give him ideas.

Road humps, horrible things. Come on lets do a Barnet and rip them all out. And while we're at it can we please get rid of those useless and dangerous gold zones the Lib Dems have taken to heart?

Of course Kevin was responsible for implementing many of them. However, he makes a good point - the reason why most people buy 4x4's is to counter humps and the terrible condition of our roads - and to feel safer from road rage.
