Lots of work in the last few days. Two leaflets and a targeted letter in 4 days. Amazing how we have coped with this level of activity at a stroll. We are a different force from where we were a few years ago. Good news for the General Election when it comes. Whatever else we are doing well and Labour seem to have an increasing vote. Juts a matter now of whether the appalling Lib Dem record in Kingston sticks or not.
Going through a period of parents evenings at the moment. The children are really pleased when they do well and it is really pleasing for a parent when they perform above their expectations.
I see today that Michael Howard is backing stem cell research as a positive way forward to finding a cure for a host of diseases. I am in a quandry over some of this. There is a part of me that believes that Michael is right and that we should take whatever medical reasearch initiatives we can to prolong life and make life better for those with serious diseases. There is another part of me, the part that believes in a religious and spiritual dimension, that questions whether expeimentation with an unborn foetus is the right way forward for medical research. Once again I am reminded of the 'Yes Minister' salami tactics. Where do you stop? Is any form of medical research acceptable? We as 'born' humans have the right to say that our bodies can be used for medical research but who is the voice for the unborn foetus?
I am not yet sure of my position on this but I have found this US site interesting, especially the role of the use of adult stem cells in developing cures for these many diseases.

Bitchy, bitchy, "Mr Shaw".
It's quite pathetic that Ed Davey has nothing better to do with his time than visit his opponent's website, disguise himself as his previous opponent, and sling insults around.
"Tory Boy" - is that the best you can come up with? I don't think Kevin Davis is much younger than you, Ed.
We'll get you next time.
I see the Literal Demagogues are as magnanimous in victory as ever ... if only the public could see the real face of those lovely LDs.
I thought the result was pretty bad news for the LDs. Labour did do better (although not much) and the Tories came within c.400 votes of taking a very staunch LD ward. If this (and that pathetic first post) is the best that the LDs can come up with then Mr Davey might just have a fight on his hands.
I find it interesting that Kevin belives the council is being ran badly by the Lib Dems. I agree- 'Excellent' is an awful rating to be officially given.
Well done to the Lib Dem team!
This Lib Dem Council is terrible. We pay ludicrously high Council tax and bleat how it is all the Governments fault. Instead of wasting our time moaning why don't they do something to get it down. Instead we get just more spending on road humps, charging for elderly care, means tests, insulting consultation methods ignoring public opinion, unneccessarily exorbitant magazines, setting up duplicate neighbourhoods each with their own staff doing the same job, telling residents in a by election that they will scrap Council Tax when the Lib Dems will never be in power to do anything of the sort, having no public transport poiicy, having spent two and a half years achieveing absolutely nothing in Kingston except a plethora of documents and words, increasing council employees at an outrageous rate, being downgraded to 'Good' as a council but not going over board when they go back up to 'Excellent' because they know that their falling recycling rate will push them down again fairly soon, attempting to kill off Kingstons businnesses by refusing to accept that customers would rather go elsewhere then Kingston because of their appalling traffic schemes and lack of parking, pretending they like the environment but take two and a half years to do anything about the appalling recycling in Kingston, increasing the allowances for Counillors and giving the Lib Dem Leader of the Cohncil the highest rise of all, installing stupid parking restrictions and make residents pay more tax for the space outside their house.....I could go on.
You see we residents are watching, it's all in the local papers. I hate all parties but at least the Tories can run things. The Lib Dems have not a hope and as time goes on Kingston will change again and some sanity and order will return. In fact I am beginning to wonder whether a revival of Labour and a Tory/Lab coalition would not be a bad thing because then at least it would keep the Liberals out!!
