Bad smell update

Have now, finally, got some sense from Thames Water.

It appears the Berrylands (Hogsmill) treatment works have got a faulty "gas flare system" They are now undertaking repairs which they expect to have completed by the 26th August.

By September Berrylands will be fragrant again.

Does not stop me having a meeting with them to try and discuss what further can be done to limit smells from the place.

I've only lived in Kingston a few months (I suspect I'm not in your ward, in fact) but I can tell you that we get the nauseating smell in postcode KT1! Just yesterday - and that was September. Plainly we've not reached the "fragrant" point just yet.

KT1 is another area that gets badly hit ny this smell. In fact probably more than Berrylands because of the winds.

Will keep up the pressure to do something and have come across an interesting case where residents took the Water Company to court and won!!

I have only just picked up this article on the sewage works. I did notice your article in the local paper in September. I was one of the residents who complained about the pungent smell this year as it was noticeably different from last year. I read that Thames water commented that they only had a handful of complaints. Everyone that I spoke to knew it was bad but thought it was just something we had to put up with as they did not know that it was actually a fault. If people knew that the site could be improved I am sure a lot more residents would have something to say. Thank you for the pressure that you have put on them and hopefuly people will realise that we don't have to just put up with it.
