Lib Dem Lies

Well they had to do it some time.

The Lib Dems have put out a nasty piece of paper attacking me personally with not a policy in site from them. Seems to be the tone of the Lib Dems at this election. No ideas - no policies - just personal smears.

So cowardly was this leaflet that they could not bring themselves to mention their party or their candidates except in small print at the bottom of the back page.

If you want to read it I have uploaded a copy. I am happy to do this because the rubbish they have written is a bunch of lies and half truths.

After Mark Oaten, Simon Hughes and the deceit of Kennedy (aided by our local MP) you would have thought that local Lib Dems would have wanted to avoid this type of evilness - still that's who they are and that is what they do! They are clearly happy with the way they treat people.

But on a more serious point it does make you wonder why anyone would want to go into politics. Is it any wonder that so many people are turned off and that women appear not to put themselves forward if this is the type of personalised trash that your opponents write against you? It is just such a shame that not a single leaflet that the Lib Dems have issued anywhere in this election (and there have not been many) have they attempted to enter into a debate about the future of Kingston and where they would lead it differently to us. They have a rambling and dull manifesto on their website but they appear not to want to tell many people about that. At least we had a manifesto we were proud to print and have been proud to go on promoting in every leaflet we produce.

Happy Easter!

If these are all lies and half truths why not provide a point-by-point defence against them Kevin? I have no doubt that you can.

Surely that would be better than calling Kennedy an alcoholic, Oaten a sexual deviant, and Hughes a liar (all of which I'm getting a bit bored with)? These typically Tory insults of the Lib Dems I think are really undermining Conservative integrity. It strikes of kicking a political party when its down, and will only enhance Lib Dem sympathy support.

So far the only Conservative literature I have seen are leaflets which appear to be printed on non-recycled paper with David Cameron's face smarmed all over the front of them and which were thrown carelessly on the floor of the hallway to my building. Even the people who deliver flyers for pizza delivery services manage to leave them in an orderly pile. Who cares what the leaflets say, the thoughtfulness, or lack thereof, of the activists who deliver the leaflets says more about any party than the meaningless piffle contained on the leaflets themselves.

Great to see the panic reflected in the first couple of comments.
Clearly the L/Dems are very worried about holding Kingston,Lab we can ignore as most of their core voters would seem drawn to the BNP,if one accepts sister Hodges comments, which admittedly are hopelessly inaccurate.
Go for it Kevin, seize the day,and get Kingston moving again.

Well isn't that just rich...!

The Liberals' are so daft sometimes one has to feel for them. 7 different sets of flats delivered to in New Malden, various different Focuses and Voices left spralling around at the bottom of each stairs in one big guzump of a pile. What would have had happened if a blind person came out of his or her flat and slipped on the toilet roll currently used as Lib Dem literature??? the fluffy-bunny Lib Dems' wouldn't look so wonderful then. Indeed, the literature was appropriately dealt with but please let this be a lesson.

Do try and look in your own backyward before writing pathetic comments such as the above.

In reply to the first comment, do people really want to have to have a 'but you said this, and I said that,' 'yeah but, no but,' personalised tit for tat coming through their doors? I imagine the Liberal Democrats knew exactly what they were doing by putting this leaflet out - I'd like to know the truth but nothing turns me off politics more than having hundreds of leaflets with counter accusations thrust through my door at election time.

Helen, there is an awful lot of truth in what you say.

Parties should be concentrating on the positive and what they want to do for Kingston and I hoped that the publishing of our manifesto in the way we have (and distributed to every door) would allow people a choice. Sadly the Lib Dem literature seems little interested in their policy or vision for Kingston.

I do say this though. If we did win this election then in areas like the environment I do believe all three parties need to work together to find a successful formula for Kingston that really will contribute to doing our bit for global environmental issues. These things can no longer be done alone because only local action appears likely to influence these types of global issues. Changing the subject slightly I know but still very important.

No party has all the best ideas!

Kevin,

The other day I asked you if you could justify yourself against a tirade of Liberal Democrat allegations as to your competence as a councillor (which you were happy to post on your own blog because they were only lies and half-truths).

I request again an explanation of these allegations. If none is forthcoming should I accept that you do in fact want a rise in council tax, and that you have been irresponsible and inconsistent over a range of policies?

PS For Helen’s sake, please let’s keep this to the blog so as not to disturb the electorate with our tit-for-tat banter.

PPS It would be regrettable if you were to prove the Liberal Democrats right, Kevin, by demonstrating that your words do speak louder than your actions.

No Party has the best ideas other than the Conservatives...!

I am not at the moment able to do what you ask. This matter is currently under legal consideration and I am advised not to respond until a decision as to what actions is to be taken against the Lib Dem agent and candidates. There are clear lies in the document. Maybe in the next few weeks I can release soemthing depending on that outcome.

thank you 'helen' - it really is awful that anyone could criticse Kevin's fantastic record.
Under his leadership the Tories fell to 15 seats (probably the worst ever) and went down to a 9,000 vote defeat in the General Election. Maybe the message is that the people of Kingston are not interested in your ideas Kevin? Wink!

As someone who has been delivering in the Coombe Vale ward I find it sad that leaflets have been left in some flats in inappropriate places. That is just a waste of time and annoying.

Speaking for myself I put the leaflets all the way through the letterbox as to leave them otherwise sends a message to those who might wish to break in. I applaud the Conservative and Christain Peoples Alliance deliverers I have followed as they are doing the job properly.

Leslie Jones (Lib-Dems/Coombe Vale candidate)

Agh! Dear Anon, this is exactly what I mean about the political too and fro! What on earth has a persons electoral record got to do with what I said about not liking having political leaflets going through my door that just take swipes at each other? All the stuff I get like that goes in the bin - which is exactly where the leaflet above ended up.

However, leaflets that come through making electoral pledges get stuck on my notice board. The Conservatives have managed to put out material like that, even the Greens have, yet not a snifter from the Lib Dems. Please stop back biting and let me know why I should vote for you!

Rabbatt Resident,

You have quoted my post but appear to be under the impression that I'm a Lib Dem. I'm not. I have no affliation to any party and if what you say about the Lib Dem leafleting in New Malden is so, then I condemn that as well. What you say about a blind person slipping on leaflets applied equally to my building. As a floating voter, this type of thing will actually have an impact on how I decide to vote. Promises made on glossy leaflets are of little value to me if those leaflets are just thrown on the floor like litter. It's inconsiderate and displays a lack of respect for residents...no matter which party does it.

And I looked in my backyard and all that was there was a car park.

Can't seem to download the front page of this leaflet- is it available?

If you click on it it should open into a browser and you can either print or view in a larger size. Happy to email if you email me.

Working fine now, though it might be that I am being even more of an idiot- I have just got a new computer and I have had alot of problems with it!- I'm only getting the front page of the leaflet up.
Good site though- came on through Iain Dale's (his is a bit better, but you're getting there!)- live in Surrey, which Kingston is really, so quite interested!

Iain does a fantastic job and is great with the scoops. However, I hardly know how he has the time to do the amount of blogging he does.
