First the Lib Dems told their actvisits to "be wicked, act shamelessly, stir endlessly". Now they are telling them to dole out sweets as a way of enticing young children to go and deliver leaflets for them. What sort of a party is this?
My kids have been known to help me deliver a few leaflets but they soon got bored and refused to do any more. But the idea that I could go down a street like the "pied piper" encouraging kids I do not know to deliver would be absurd. I would rightly expect parents to call the Police!Did their campaigns Director really say: "All political parties find that young people are often willing deliverers of party literature." Well may be they are - but not other people's children!

The document referred to is 12 years old (seems appropriate somehow!), the comments were apparently revised out of it two editions ago.
Typical Tory stirring.
Was not aware either the BBC or Guido were Conservative. Even the BBC can see through a story where there isn't one. IF it is that old it does not make it right!
Does no-one in the Conservative Party understand irony?
A bizarre comment from Mary Reid. Would the idea of treating the elderly in Kingston also constitute irony, or maybe giving away the theatre? One simply cannot, when involved in politics and peoples lives, simply dismiss complete idiocy as 'irony'. Very worrying. Was the idea of actng shamelessly and wickedly also another piece of terrific Lib Dem 'irony'. Those conferences must be a real hoot!
Anon: Maybe 'irony' would not be the right word. 'Tongue-in-cheek' would better describe it.
Kevin: Who do you think gave it to the BBC?
When I was a Lib Dem I can remember seeing the 'sweety' comment, taking it in the spirit intended, but thinking it was a bit of a daft thing to have in a campaign manual precisely because it could be misinterpreted (although I though Labour had raised this issue a few years back).
Guido Fawkes is actually a Lib Dem member!
I would like to place a bet that the last comment was posted by an individual with the initials P and possibly J. I can detect that sanctimonious tone anywhere!
'would the idea of treating the elderly also constitute irony?'
would some members of the COnservative group like to declare an interest on this point?
As the youngest member of the group - until we elect some new members - I will declare that I am interested in the elderly. I for instance would never have imposed means testing on them as this current administration has.
