Kingston's new Mayor

I attended annual council last night when the Council selects their new Mayor. The Council has a very good website that covers the office of the Mayor and gives some of the history.

They elected Cllr Mary Reid to serve as Mayor and I wish her the best of fortune in what I am sure will be a busy year for her and her husband Ian. I have not always seen eye to eye with Mary but she has been a good Councillor, as many are. She is a very good choice.

In the past four years the Lib Dem administration shared the Mayoralty around the party groups. Whilst they are happy to share the deputy Mayor (Labour Cllr Sheila Griffin is the deputy this year) I doubt whether the same will happen on the mayoralty given they have such a slim majority. Lose one seat and the Council is hung and the Mayor can become important!

Glad you think Mary is a good choice Kevin but shouldn't you have deleted annonymous personal comments about her and her husband Ian in your earlier blogs as you have criticised others for doing so about you?

I was asked to remove the comments on Mary and Ian and on refelction they were gartutitously offensive. The appear to have come from a regularly abusive ISP.

Just a shame Kevin that you didn't see fit to delete them instantly just as you do with any comments or questions you don't like about yourself.

I would hope though that your colleagues would uphold respect for the mayoralty, irrespective of who holds the office or by which party.

RIP Eric Forth MP

His death is very sad. Agree or not with his politics he was a colourful character. I believe he never held a constituency surgery because he did not believe MP's were elected to be quasi social workers!

Thank you, Kevin, for your entry about me - very much appreciated. I am continuing to blog as Mayor.
